Maya's Magical Adventures

Maya’s Magical Adventures is a fast moving, imaginative comedy and fantasy adventure for young adults, suitable for children from 10 upwards and adults alike. Join Maya a young Scottish girl and her know-it-all talking cat Mischief on a series of magical adventures and mishaps as she discovers her magical powers and their hilarious pitfalls. Imaginative language will keep you ’wide eyed as a bush baby after a double espresso’ throughout!
The story begins when Maya discovers the key to her mother’s forbidden room. Inside she unlocks a magical book and potion bottles, each one leading to a new adventure. Under the ‘not so helpful’ tutorage of her now very vocal, rather grumpy and forgetful cat Mischief. Maya has to solve a series of strange riddles, tame and ride her own unique form of transport and journey across local Ayrshire and Arran landmarks in search of her wand and dragons in whose flame she must fire it.
Maya is joined on each adventure by some of her close friends, each of whom fall victim to the pitfalls of her new untrained magical talents or the attentions of a mysterious and increasingly powerful shadow who attempts to foil her at every turn.
Befriended by a young accident prone dragon or ‘puffling’ called Blink, with her assembled friends and her rather shallow Aunty Dot, she sets off on the final quest to find the mysterious mirror maze, claim its prize and face their greatest fears. Clues throughout each adventure hint at Maya’s beloved Aunty Dot as a suspect for her mysterious foe, but there are surprises and twists a plenty in the final chapter as Maya comes face to face with the shadow for the first time and is forced to choose between her friends and the mysterious prize. Enough to get her “heart pounding in her ears like bongo drums strapped to the back of a runaway camel.”
The book is based upon the bedtime stories and illustrations of the author’s daughter Maya. Slapstick, magic and mythical creatures with a generous helping of cheeky safe humour for the younger ones mixed with more advanced humour, intrigue, surprises and plot twists to keep older readers and adults captivated and amused. Ideal feel-good bedtime reading!
